At the end of this lesson you will be able to:
State what are the precautions to be observed when using a clinical thermometer
Distinguish between a lab and clinical thermometer
State the similarities between a lab and clinical thermometer
Why is a doctors thermometer graduated only from 35 to 42 C only?
This is because the human body temperature has a short range. If your tempertaure goes below 35 or above 42C the person will die or be put into intensive care at least
CERTAIN PRECAUTIONS TO BE KEPT IN MIND WHEN USING A CLINICAL THERMOMETER:
- Always wash the thermometer before and after use.
- If the level of mercury is below 35° use it as such.
- If the level is above 35° bring it down by giving it a few jerks.
- Place the bulb of the thermometer under the tongue or armpit for at least 2 minutes.
- When taken out do not hold it by the bulb when reading the temperature.
Let us now make a comparison between the two kinds of thermometers we have studied about:
ANSWER THESE QUESTIONS ORALLY-
1.What are the precautions to be observed when using a clinical thermometer?
2.State four differences between a lab and clinical and lab thermometer.
3.State two similarities between a lab and clinical thermometer.
That is all for today.
See you soon!
