As you observe, each organism in a forest depends on the other organisms. Hence, an organism as small as a fruit fly is important. The absence of any one would affect the entire food chain.

Can you now point out the interdependence of PLANTS and ANIMALS in a forest?

• Animals get Oxygen from plants and provide Carbon dioxide to plants. This Oxygen-Carbon dioxide balance is very important in nature.
• 
• Animals depend on plants for food. In return, animals help the plants in pollination.
• Animals get protection and shelter from plants and provide them nutrients through their excretions.
• Humans too get so many useful things from the plants such as natural fibres, medicinal things, spices, wood, timber, rubber, gum, resin, etc.

You now understand why we need equal participation from plants and animals. This is very important to have a balance in the environment.
